SUMMARY:LA County Sheriff Candidate Asian Community Forum
DESCRIPTION:Meet & Greet with Los Angeles County Sheriff Candidates for Asian Pacific Islander community members. \nCo-hosted by Asian Americans Advancing Justice Southern California (AJSOCAL)\, the Asian Democrats of Los Angeles County (ADLAC)\, and the Korean American Democratic Committee (KADC)\, this non-partisan community event will allow Asian Pacific Islander community members to learn about and ask questions of candidates for LA County Sheriff ahead of the November election. Specifically\, the event organizers hope this event can allow for a nuanced discussion on the role of policing and combating anti-Asian hate within the purview of the County Sheriff’s office. \nTo attend in-person or virtually\, RSVP is required. \nLocation will be released within 48 hours of the event. Questions for candidates will be collected both prior to the event (via RSVP form) and a limited number of live questions will be taken. Moderators reserve the right to limit questions or discussion that distracts from the purpose of the event. \nTentative schedule (subject to change): \n7:00PM – In-Person & Virtual Check-in & Event Begins \n7:30PM – Meet & Greet and Q&A with Sheriff Alex Villanueva (candidate in-person; attendees may join in-person or via livestream) \n8:00PM – Program Break \n8:15PM – Meet & Greet and Q&A with Chief Robert Luna (candidate online; attendees may join in-person or via livestream) \n8:45PM – Wrap-up and Event Ends \n  \nUPDATE (9/22): While both candidates were previously confirmed for in-person appearances\, due to concerns for his campaign staff members’ personal safety Chief Luna will now be appearing via livestream only. \nShare this event! bit.ly/APISheriffForum

DESCRIPTION:Join us for the release of An American Vocabulary: Words to Action\, a collaborative art piece between JANM Artists at Work fellows Audrey Chan and jason chu. The project centers on a series of multilingual flash cards that use illustration and poetry to explore concepts in Asian American community. The unveiling of the flashcards will be accompanied by live music on the plaza\, artist discussions\, and spotlighted community vendors and organizations. \nRSVP here and the first 300 attendees will receive a FREE full set of An American Vocabulary flashcards when they check in on the day of the event.
