FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, SEPTEMBER 21, 2026, LOS ANGELES, CA — Asian Americans Advancing Justice Southern California (AJSOCAL) and the Democracy Center at the Japanese American National Museum (JANM) welcomed U.S. Representative Judy Chu and community partners to UP CLOSE: AAPI Immigrant Justice, an in-person briefing on the current immigration landscape for AAPI communities.
AJSOCAL and JANM brought together legal, policy, research, and community experts to provide clarity on changes in immigration policy. The event also introduced new AAPI immigration data on the existing AsianResourceHub.org.
The event featured remarks from U.S. Rep. Judy Chu (CA-28), AJSOCAL CEO Dahni Tsuboi, and Director of The Democracy Center at JANM James Herr, as well as insights from AJSOCAL’s immigration, health access, and demographic research leaders: Andrew Ji, Managing Director of Immigration Justice; Christine Chen, Director of Immigration Services; Connie Lo, Director of Health Access Program; and June Lim, Managing Director of Demographic Research Project (and AsianResourceHub.org).
“This is a very important event on the state of immigration in our country,” said U.S. Representative Judy Chu. “Our immigrant communities contribute to every facet of American life. In fact, immigrants built America. And yet, since the beginning of his second term, contrary to his pledge to deport only criminals, President Trump used his cruel and discriminant raids to trample him on the rights and due process of any immigrant, and even those who support those immigrants.”
“It’s happening to our people in numbers way too large to ignore,” said Dahni Tsuboi, CEO of AJSOCAL. “Behind every single number is someone’s parent, someone’s grandparent, neighbor, child. This is our civil rights moment, and immigration is just one front in that much larger fight. Immigration policy decides whether someone can stay with their family, whether someone gets constitutionally guaranteed due process, whether a person can live openly and safely in their community that they have called home.”
