In the face of a second Trump Administration, we bear witness to the fear, grief, and anger we feel alongside our families, partners, clients and communities. Yet we remain resolute in our mission. Initiatives like Project 2025 and the myriad campaign promises President-elect Trump made, portend a dangerous agenda that threatens the stability and safety of the communities we are from and serve. We saw firsthand the devastation caused by Trump’s first presidency, and we have no doubts that the destabilization and devastation will resume in his second term. The new administration signals a much more aggressive approach to immigration, targeted attacks on queer and trans rights, and sustained threats to reproductive health. These policies are undeniably hateful, bigoted, and racist.
We are prepared to meet this moment. For over 40 years, AJSOCAL has fought for the legal and civil rights of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPIs), and our work builds on the resilience and perseverance of many generations of courageous AAPI communities. With that legacy, we also draw on the interdependence of social justice movements led by Black, Indigenous, Latinx, and other marginalized communities. Together our task is to take collective action that rejects white supremacy, systemic racism, oppression, and fear. Working in coalition, we can protect the most vulnerable among us and work towards a just, compassionate and equitable future.
In particular, AJSOCAL will fortify our core work to:
- Advocate for funding and resources to make sure that all immigrants have access to legal representation or support.
- To fight alongside our allies nationwide to protect our communities from the coming inhumane, mass deportation and immigrant removal efforts that Trump has promised.
- Ensure that all asylum-seekers, living here or abroad, are able to exercise their statutory right to seek asylum.
- Fight discrimination, anti-Asian hate, and protect hyper-vulnerable AAPI communities with intersectional identities.
We know that this election result will cause fear or despair. This is the time for us to come together, resource and build our people power, and fight with our collective strength.
