Citizenship Clinics

In partnership with local community organizations, Asian Americans Advancing Justice Southern California hosts free citizenship application workshops where our staff and volunteers help verify eligibility for citizenship, complete the citizenship application, and prepare a fee waiver request for individuals who qualify. We offer similar services at our downtown Los Angeles office for those who cannot attend a workshop. In addition, we distribute USCIS-issued study materials to prepare applicants for the test and interview. In addition, Asian Americans Advancing Justice Southern California trains community organizations throughout California and across the country to provide citizenship application services.

Basic eligibility requirements for U.S. citizenship

• You are at least 18 years old
• You are a permanent resident (you have a green card)
• You have resided continuously in the U.S. for at least 5 years (or if you are married to a U.S. citizen, at least 3 years)
• You have been physically present in the U.S. for at least 2½ years (or if you are married to a U.S. citizen, at least 1½ years)
• You demonstrate good moral character
• You demonstrate a basic knowledge of U.S. history and government as well as an ability to read, write, speak and understand basic English

Friday Virtual Citizenship Clinics at Asian Americans Advancing Justice Southern California

When: Every Friday of the month – 10AM – 4PM

Where: Virtual (in-person services are available dependent on staff availability, please inquire if interested)

Information & documents to bring:

• Green card and state-issued ID
• Filing fee: $725 (if under 75 years of age) or $640 (if 75 or older), payable to “U.S. Department of Homeland Security.” Note: If you are low-income, you may qualify for a full or partial fee waiver.
• Passport(s)
• Arrest and court records (if any)
• Home addresses for the past 5 years
• Employer/school addresses and dates for the past 5 years
• Date of all trips abroad for the past 5 years
• Spouse and children names, birth dates, A-numbers, and addresses
