We support CA Proposition 1 and LA County Measure A
Prop 1 and Measure A reflect issues that heavily impact the Asian American community; reproductive freedom and sheriff accountability
YES on California Proposition 1
CA Proposition 1 will secure reproductive freedom in the California constitution, protecting access to abortion and contraceptives.
What is CA PROPOSITION 1?
OVERVIEW
Proposition 1 will amend the State Constitution to explicitly prohibit the State from denying or interfering with personal choice related to reproductive care. It declares that individuals have a fundamental right to choose to have an abortion and to use or refuse contraceptives.
WHY VOTE YES?
- Proposition 1 is not just about abortion, it’s about reproductive freedom.
- Reproductive Freedom is an Asian American issue. Limiting reproductive freedom will increase discrimination and existing healthcare barriers for the Asian American community.
- Reproductive freedom has wide reaching support in the Asian American community.
REPRODUCTIVE FREEDOM IS ESSENTIAL FOR THE ASIAN AMERICAN COMMUNITY
- 85% of AAPI women nationally support abortion but 31% live in states that ban or will ban abortion. It is our duty to be a beacon of hope for Asian American communities across the country.
- Asian American women are overrepresented in frontline and service industries, with only 53% of all Asian American women eligible to receive unpaid family leave and almost the same percent living in ‘child care deserts’. These circumstances will be exacerbated by additional financial and mental strain caused by banning abortion or limiting reproductive freedom.
- The U.S. has a long history of forced sterilization of Asian women, communities of color, and people with disabilities. There are accusations of forced hysterectomies on our communities as recently as 2020. There is a history of violence against Asian American women that includes physically removing their bodily autonomy; Proposition 1 can ensure that such practices are permanently banished from California and set an example of accountability.

YES on LA County Measure A
LA County Measure A will keep the Los Angeles Sheriff accountable for their actions including any violation of public trust- including corruption, disregard of the law, and obstruction of civilian oversight.
What is LA County Measure A?
OVERVIEW
Measure A ensures that we can keep the Los Angeles County sheriff accountable by authorizing the removal of a sheriff if they commit serious violations of the public trust – such as breaking the law, lying in official statements, obstructing investigations into deputy misconduct, or failing to stop deputy gangs from brutalizing our communities.
WHY VOTE YES?
- Measure A provides real accountability by establishing checks and balances to hold the sheriff accountable.
- Measure A is anti-violence by holding sheriffs accountable for covering up and failing to stop the violence of deputy gangs.
- Measure A means we can hold a sheriff accountable for mishandling the rise of anti-Asian discrimination.
- Measure A is anti-corruption; preventing the prevalent abuse of power and corruption exercised by Sheriff Villanueva and his predecessors.
SHERIFF ACCOUNTABILITY WILL PROTECT THE ASIAN AMERICAN COMMUNITY
- L.A. County has a long history of bad sheriffs who have broken the community’s trust by abusing power, disregarding the law, and obstructing civilian oversight.
- Multiple investigations have uncovered over a dozen deputy gangs within the L.A. Sheriff’s Department, who have abused county residents for decades. Federal investigations and news reports have documented extensive misconduct over many years, including racism, harassment, beatings, and killings.
- Sheriffs have resisted meaningful actions to stop deputy gang violence, instead denying their existence and shielding deputies from discipline. Settlements related to deputy gangs have cost county taxpayers at least $55 million since 1990.
- Sheriffs have mishandled cases of anti-Asian hate and failed to provide justice for survivors. It should not fall on the Asian American community to be responsible and accountable for acts of hate and violence on their own community. The Asian American community has suffered under the current Sheriff’s term without an opportunity to hold them accountable.
