POLICIES AND ISSUE PRIORITIES

Asian Americans Advancing Justice Southern California defends civil rights through advocacy with the legislature and government agencies, in order to change existing laws or institutional policies. Asian Americans Advancing Justice Southern California works on issues at the city, county, state, and national levels.

Health Access

The Health Access Project addresses the health-related needs of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities and immigrants. Asian Americans Advancing Justice Southern California advocates with policy makers on health care reform implementation and works with community partners to educate AAPI community members. Asian Americans Advancing Justice Southern California also works on other related issues, such as increasing public health benefits access and addressing cultural and linguistic barriers.

Voting Rights

Many AANHPI voters are limited English proficient or face other barriers such as access to the polls, registration, voting machines, identification requirements, and election structures that dilute the impact of underserved communities’ votes. Asian Americans Advancing Justice Southern California is proud to advocate for the rights of voters and election policies through our Voting Rights Project.

Immigrant Rights

Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders (NHPI) are a community that is nearly two-thirds immigrant and the fastest growing racial group in the United States. At the local, state, and federal level, Asian Americans Advancing Justice Southern California works to amplify Asian American and NHPI community voices in the immigration reform debate and advocates for fair laws and policies affecting Asian American and NHPI immigrants using both administrative and legislative strategies.

Educational Opportunity and Empowerment

Through data, research, advocacy, and education, Asian Americans Advancing Justice Southern California seeks to provide a more accurate picture of the issues facing Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander students in accessing higher education. We also build coalitions and advocate for policies that increase access and equity in higher education in California.
