Every May, AAPI Heritage Month is a time to celebrate the vibrant cultures, histories, and contributions of Asian American and Pacific Islander communities. But at Asian Americans Advancing Justice Southern California, it’s also a time to act.
AJSOCAL is deepening its commitment to community through a powerful mix of public events, legal services, and storytelling across Los Angeles and Orange County.

Medical Legal Clinics
Throughout May, AJSOCAL is expanding access to free legal services across Los Angeles, Orange County, including new off-site clinics in the San Gabriel Valley, and schools in the Garvey School district. These clinics provides free and confidential in-person health coverage enrollment and legal assistance services.

A free, 5-day virtual series exploring why immigration is an AAPI issue—designed as an accessible primer for community members, advocates, and allies. Each one-hour session will feature subject matter experts who will highlight the lived experiences, challenges, and strengths of AAPI communities during this volatile and precarious time for immigrants. Our experts will offer context, research, real life stories, and practical entry points for public engagement.

This AAPI Heritage Month, AJSOCAL is partnering with Orcé and SteepLA to turn a simple moment—grabbing a drink—into a way to give back.
Throughout April and May, 10% of proceeds from a special Guava Oolong Tea will be donated to support AJSOCAL’s work serving AAPI communities across Southern California.

The program will begin with a Council presentation recognizing distinguished honorees, including brief remarks from the honorees. This will be followed by a casual reception at the Spring Street Forecourt featuring DJ music and refreshments.

AJSOCAL will be joining the community on May 1st, 7:30pm, for a special evening at East West Players, featuring a performance of Flower Drum Song followed by a brief, immigration-focused panel.
The panel will highlight stories and perspectives that reflect the complexities of Asian American immigrant experiences, featuring:
- Judy Sasaki, Attorney, Coleman and Horowitt, LLP (retired)
- Cami Kwan, CAPE Short Film Awardee and filmmaker exploring immigrant narratives
Moderated by Ronnette Ramos, VP of Programs at AJSOCAL, the discussion will offer insight into how art and advocacy intersect in shaping our communities today.

To celebrate AAPI cultural heritage and Mental Health Awareness Month, AJSOCAL will join Pacific Clinics’ 3rd annual 5×5 Connect. Create. Celebrate. Art Gallery event.
This community-centered event invites participants to create and share stories through art—using creative expression to connect cultures and celebrate collective wellness. Through a variety of artistic forms, the exhibition highlights the importance of belonging, identity, and mental health within the communities we serve.
AJSOCAL will also host a legal resource information booth during the event, providing community members with access to trusted support and information.

5/21 AAPI POWER: Democracy in Action Policy Summit (Breakout Session)

AJSOCAL CEO Dahni Tsuboi will join a featured breakout session at the AAPI POWER: Democracy in Action Policy Summit, hosted by the AAPI Equity Alliance.
This session will focus on immigration and AAPI communities, offering a closer look at how advocacy is unfolding across federal, state, and local levels in response to ongoing anti-immigrant policies. Attendees will gain insight into the broader landscape of advocacy efforts—and learn how to take part in shaping more just and equitable outcomes.
Bringing together community leaders, advocates, and policymakers, this summit is a space to connect, learn, and mobilize around the issues impacting AAPI communities today.

.5/24 AAPI Heritage Month Yoga + Soundbath
Join us for a special AAPI Heritage Month yoga and soundbath experience led by Misheel Erdenesogt.
This all-levels, hatha-based practice is designed to ground, restore, and celebrate community through mindful movement and breath. The evening will feature a curated playlist highlighting AAPI artists, flowing into a calming soundbath to close the practice—creating space for connection, reflection, and care.
In a meaningful show of support, a portion of proceeds from this class will be donated to AJSOCAL, helping sustain the free legal services that support community members on their immigration journeys.

5/26 OC AAPI Demographic Research Convening
Join AJSOCAL in Orange County for a Demographic Research Convening titled Understanding Orange County: Trends Shaping Our Communities during AAPI Heritage Month, bringing together community and civic leaders from across Orange County.
This cross-sector conversation will focus on key demographic trends and insights across our communities, with presentations from leading partners working at the intersection of research, policy, and community engagement.
We’ll hear from a few great partners working at the intersection of research and community work, including Dean Jon Gould, Ph.D, J.D (UCI School of Social Ecology), Priscilla Huang, Ph.D (Center for Asian Americans in Action), and June Lim, Ph.D from our Demographic Research Project at AJSOCAL.

AJSOCAL will be hosting a legal resource booth at the second annual Tour de NAMI Kick-Off Party—an energizing evening bringing the community together for meaningful conversations around mental health, especially for youth and young adults across the region.
The event will feature inspiring guest speakers, food and refreshments, and a mini resource fair highlighting local organizations and support services.
Tour de NAMI is an 8-day fundraising and awareness initiative supporting NAMI Orange County’s youth and young adult programs. Led by educators and cyclists Cork Snyder and Rick Burns, participants will ride down the California coast—from Pacifica to Oceanside—covering approximately 80 miles per day to raise awareness and support for mental health.
