Each year Asian Americans Advancing Justice Southern California (AJSOCAL) hosts an Anniversary Dinner, which is a signature event that benefits AJSOCAL through the generous support of individuals, companies, and foundations.
The gala celebrates AJSOCAL’s accomplishments throughout the year and highlights its year-round programs and services. Additionally, we honor those who have made a significant impact on the community. The event includes elected officials, community partners, members of the Asian American bar associations and leaders from the arts, culture, and media as well as corporate, legal, and nonprofit sectors. It has become one of the most anticipated fundraising events in the Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander communities.
With a connection to past recent years, the theme is for this year’s gala is the 42nd Anniversary United In Action: Advance Together.
This year, the gala will also commemorate 30 years since the landmark Bureerong v. Uvawas case in El Monte, California—a legal victory led by AJSOCAL that freed 72 Thai nationals from modern-day slavery. The case, led by former staff attorney Julie Su, reshaped labor laws to prevent sweatshops, established protections for immigrant survivors of human trafficking, and set a new national standard for justice.
The gathering will also feature a performance by the acclaimed Asian Pacific Islander–founded, LA-based Kokoro Band, known for their spirited blend of traditional and contemporary musical influences.
The evening will be hosted by David Ono, award-winning news anchor for KABC-TV Channel 7. A trusted journalist and storyteller, Ono has long highlighted issues and voices from the Asian American community.
The event is on October 16, 2025 from 6:30pm-9pm PT. Dress code is cocktail-attire.
