When Politics Shape Funding, Our Communities Pay The Price

Jul 23, 2026 | Announcements

This week, AJSOCAL submitted a public comment opposing the Office of Management and Budget’s (OMB) proposed Regulation for Federal Financial Assistance.

We are deeply concerned that the proposed changes would politicize federal grantmaking, create instability for nonprofit organizations, and limit access to essential services for the communities that rely on them most.

Our comment highlights how the proposal could undermine research on health disparities, threaten the use of disaggregated data that helps identify and address community-specific needs, and create barriers to language access and culturally responsive services.

For AANHPI communities, including many immigrants and individuals with limited-English proficiency, disaggregated data, in-language outreach, community partnerships, and evidence-based programs are critical to ensuring access to health care, legal services, civic participation, and other essential resources.

The proposal could also increase administrative burdens on nonprofits, diverting valuable resources away from direct services and community impact.

AJSOCAL urges the OMB to withdraw this proposal and preserve an objective federal funding process that is focused on serving communities, not shifting political priorities.
